After a multi-million-dollar transformation spanning two years and seven resorts, Tamarind, Barbados, an Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort, has reopened on the island’s Platinum West Coast, marking the final stage of Marriott International’s broader evolution of its Barbados Collection.

Set along a stretch of white-sand beach, Tamarind has long been known as a relaxed, family-friendly retreat. Its latest chapter brings a refreshed design, new culinary experiences and programming centred on the culture and character of Barbados, while retaining the easygoing appeal of its oceanfront setting.

The resort now features 111 redesigned guestrooms and suites, with interiors drawing inspiration from the surrounding sea and landscape. Public spaces have also been refreshed, creating a more contemporary Caribbean atmosphere that remains connected to the island rather than feeling removed from it.

Food is an important part of that connection. Breakfast is served at Sugar Cane Restaurant, while Harvest & Hive offers artisanal coffee and 246 Bar & Restaurant combines local and international flavours. At the water’s edge, Sugar Shack focuses on casual seaside dining.

The most notable culinary addition is Caribbean Restaurant, described as Barbados’ first air-conditioned restaurant dedicated exclusively to authentic Barbadian cuisine. Together, the dining venues give guests opportunities to experience both familiar international favourites and the flavours of the island throughout their stay.

Beyond the restaurants, Tamarind offers several swimming pools, an expansive beachfront, motorised and non-motorised water sports and wellness experiences. The resort’s programming also encourages guests to experience Barbados beyond the property, bringing local culture into the holiday through activities and encounters.

For families, one of the new additions is CAMP Club, an indoor and outdoor space created in partnership with CAMP and Marriott Bonvoy. Its activities are designed around Barbados, incorporating local arts and crafts, music, storytelling and interactive experiences. The concept gives younger guests their own way to discover the destination while parents enjoy time around the resort.

Tamarind’s new identity also fits naturally within Autograph Collection, a Marriott Bonvoy brand built around individual hotels with their own character and sense of place. Rather than applying a uniform resort experience, Tamarind’s programming draws directly from Barbadian culture, with experiences ranging from rum tastings and Soca dance lessons to cooking sessions focused on traditional Bajan fish cakes.

That local emphasis becomes particularly relevant given the scale of the transformation happening across Barbados.

Tamarind is the latest property to complete its transition within the Barbados Collection, following the evolution of several sister resorts across the island. Waves Resort & Spa, Treasure Beach and The House have joined Autograph Collection as all-inclusive resorts, while Crystal Cove and Turtle Beach have become Tribute Portfolio All-Inclusive Resorts. Colony Club has also reopened as the island’s first property under The Luxury Collection.

Together, the seven properties now offer distinct expressions of Barbados across different hospitality styles rather than functioning as variations of the same resort experience.

Tamarind’s reopening also completes the collection’s Lifestyle Stretch, linking The House, Treasure Beach and Tamarind through a curated series of West Coast experiences. The offering is complemented by the new Sandtrap Beach Club, a beachfront social destination adding another layer to the area’s evolving leisure scene.

Guests can also make use of the Barbados Collection’s Dine Around Program, giving Tamarind visitors access to selected dining experiences at participating sister properties and adding further variety to the all-inclusive offering.

The resort’s location and flexible spaces also make it suitable beyond leisure travel. Two indoor event spaces and several outdoor venues can accommodate gatherings of up to 400 guests, creating options for weddings, meetings and private celebrations with the Caribbean coastline as the backdrop.

For Marriott International, Tamarind represents the final piece of a significant investment in its Barbados portfolio. For travellers, however, the transformation is perhaps most visible in the details: a resort that combines a familiar beachfront setting with new spaces, new dining experiences and a stronger connection to the island around it.

On Barbados’ Platinum Coast, Tamarind has reopened with a distinctly local sense of place bringing together the relaxed rhythm of an all-inclusive beach escape with the character and hospitality of the island itself.
