Hilton (NYSE: HLT) is set to introduce its lifestyle brand Motto by Hilton to Australia, marking its debut with the newly signed Motto by Hilton Sydney City Centre. The announcement signals a significant expansion of Hilton’s lifestyle portfolio in the country.
Positioned as a culturally connected and design-forward concept, Motto by Hilton blends compact, efficient room layouts with vibrant communal spaces and locally inspired experiences, catering to modern travellers seeking flexibility and immersion in urban destinations.
The Sydney signing brings Hilton’s brand count in Australia to seven, reinforcing the group’s continued growth in a market where it has operated for more than five decades, following the opening of its first property in the country over 50 years ago.
The upcoming hotel will be located on York Street in Sydney’s central business district, placing guests within walking distance of major landmarks including The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Sydney Opera House, and Sydney Harbour Bridge. It will also offer convenient access to Barangaroo and the YCK Laneways precinct.
With close proximity to Wynyard and Town Hall transport hubs, the property is expected to serve as a central base for exploring Sydney’s dining, entertainment, and cultural offerings.
Tushar Raniga, director of development for Australasia at Hilton, said the location was strategically selected to immerse guests in one of the city’s most dynamic culinary and lifestyle districts. “Motto by Hilton is redefining the city stay, bringing a fresh, dynamic approach to hospitality in some of the world’s most renowned destinations. The Sydney property marks the next step in this evolution,” Raniga said.
Designed to function as more than just accommodation, Motto by Hilton Sydney City Centre will feature flexible communal spaces that adapt throughout the day. The lobby will double as a social hub serving as a workspace, meeting point, and venue for casual dining and drinks.
The project is being developed in partnership with Invictus Developments and is scheduled to open in late 2027.
The hotel will include 152 rooms, offering a mix of configurations tailored to different traveller needs: 96 standard rooms, 14 bunk rooms, 14 flex rooms, 8 accessible rooms, 20 suites. Notably, 56 rooms will feature interconnecting options, catering to families and group travellers.

Food and beverage will play a central role in the guest experience, with concepts designed to reflect the surrounding neighbourhood. Plans include locally driven café offerings, inventive mixology, and a rooftop bar aimed at creating a lively social atmosphere from day to night.
Communal seating and programming will further position the hotel as a gathering point for both visitors and locals.
Chayadi Karim, principal at Invictus Developments, described the project as a milestone for the company’s portfolio. “This collaboration represents an opportunity to transform one of our flagship properties into a vibrant urban lifestyle hotel, and underscores our commitment to expanding our presence in Australia,” Karim said.
The Sydney opening follows the brand’s recent Asia-Pacific debut with Motto by Hilton Hong Kong SoHo, as Hilton accelerates the rollout of its lifestyle offerings across key global cities.
Tal Shefer, senior vice president of brand management, Asia Pacific at Hilton, highlighted the brand’s momentum in the region. “With rooms designed to flex and social spaces at their core, Motto by Hilton Sydney City Centre will connect travellers with the pulse of the city,” Shefer said.
Globally, Motto by Hilton currently operates 10 properties in major urban destinations, including Hong Kong, Nashville, and New York. The pipeline includes a further 23 properties in various stages of development, reflecting strong demand for compact, experience-led hospitality concepts.
