A new chapter unfolds on Park Avenue as Kimpton Ashbel New York-Park Avenue officially opens its doors, bringing a residential-style luxury retreat to one of Midtown Manhattan’s most historic addresses. Located at 70 Park Avenue, just steps from Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park, the boutique property reimagines a Beaux-Arts landmark originally built in 1928 as the Doral Park Avenue Hotel.
Part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts luxury and lifestyle portfolio, the newly opened hotel blends heritage architecture with contemporary design, introducing a townhouse-inspired hospitality concept in the heart of New York City.

With 205 guestrooms including 14 family-friendly connecting options, the hotel is designed as a calm urban retreat. Interiors feature soft color palettes, tailored furnishings, and generous layouts that echo the comfort of a private Manhattan residence.
“Kimpton Ashbel is the kind of hotel that feels like a secret key, a personal enclave for those who know where to look,” said Sofia L. Vandaele, Regional Director of Operations for IHG Luxury & Lifestyle in New York. “Our intention is for guests to feel as though they are stepping into the home of a stylish New Yorker.”
Instead of a traditional lobby, the ground floor unfolds into interconnected living spaces – a foyer, living room, and family room encouraging guests to linger, work, or socialize. Original architectural elements, including columns and windows, have been preserved and framed by oversized wood portals, reinforcing the building’s historic character.
Anchored by its restored limestone façade, the hotel reflects its Beaux-Arts origins through proportion, craftsmanship, and natural light. Interiors, designed by Busta Studio, layer warm woods, soft hues, and curated gold accents with eclectic artwork and playful color touches.
Custom-designed furnishings combine refined metal detailing with organic textures, creating distinct yet cohesive spaces throughout the property. A curated art program from Soho Art Gallery features original mixed-media works, while a selection of Assouline and Taschen books enhances the residential atmosphere.
At the center of the hotel’s social experience is Park & Bel, a café concept designed to function as both a neighborhood hub and an extension of the hotel’s living room.
By day, the café serves artisanal pastries, seasonal fruit, and hearty sandwiches alongside expertly brewed coffee. In the evening, the menu shifts toward small plates, creating a relaxed setting for social gatherings. A curated bar cart offering premium cocktails, craft beer, and fine wine adds an elevated touch to the guest experience.
True to Kimpton’s brand ethos, the venue is positioned to become a destination in its own right along Park Avenue welcoming both locals and travelers.
Kimpton Ashbel places a strong emphasis on community and connection, with spaces intentionally designed to foster interaction and comfort. From casual meetings over coffee to shared conversations in the living room, the hotel encourages organic social moments.
Guests can start their mornings with the brand’s signature Kimpton Kickstart program, offering complimentary coffee and tea, while evenings feature Kimpton Social, a hosted social hour with beer and wine. Both experiences are included for hotel guests, reinforcing the property’s approachable yet refined hospitality.
The opening also marks a meaningful return for the Kimpton brand to Park Avenue, where it first established a presence in New York City. Surrounded by historic museums, libraries, and residential buildings, the location continues to offer a timeless sense of place.
“Kimpton Ashbel is a haven for travelers who view luxury not by extravagance, but by the comfort of belonging,” Vandaele added. “It’s a place to unwind, connect, and experience the city in a more personal way.”
