There is a different way to experience Bali, one that begins not with a destination on a map, but with the sound of water. It might be the ocean rolling towards Jimbaran Bay, the steady current of the Ayung River beneath a forest canopy, or water moving through the rituals and traditions that have shaped Balinese life for centuries. From October 2026 to March 2027, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay and Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan invite travellers to explore this quieter side of the island through The Season of Sacred Water, a collection of wellness, cultural and culinary experiences rooted in the relationship between nature, tradition and personal renewal.
Water has long occupied a place at the heart of Bali’s cultural landscape. It sustains the island’s rice terraces through the ancient subak irrigation system, flows through temple purification ceremonies and carries a spiritual significance that extends well beyond its practical uses. At Four Seasons, this connection becomes the starting point for two distinct experiences: one shaped by the openness and energy of the coast, the other by the contemplative atmosphere of Ubud’s river valley.

At Jimbaran Bay, the ocean is more than a view from the resort. It sets the rhythm for Tides of Renewal, a two-day programme that draws on Indonesian herbal knowledge, mindful movement and traditional sound practices. The experience begins with jamu-making, introducing guests to beras kencur, a familiar Indonesian herbal drink made from everyday botanicals and associated with generations of home wellness traditions. Bamboo stretching and Hatha yoga bring attention to the body through gentle movement and controlled breathing, creating a natural transition from the pace of daily life to the slower cadence of the coast.
The experience reaches its most immersive expression at the Healing Village Spa. Here, the 120-minute Suara Jimbaran ritual draws together the sound of the ocean and the resonant tones of Balinese gongs, accompanied by a glass stone massage and a hydrating rose and sandalwood facial. It is an encounter with wellness through the senses, where the surrounding landscape becomes part of the experience rather than merely its backdrop. Guests looking to explore further can also discover water-, colour- and sound-inspired spa treatments, or turn to Jala Cooking Academy for Indonesian culinary classes that bring another dimension of local knowledge to the stay.

Further inland, the atmosphere changes. At Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, the Ayung River winds through a landscape of tropical forest and deep green valleys, offering a setting in which quiet observation comes naturally. Flow into Stillness, the resort’s two-day programme, approaches wellness less as an activity to complete than as an opportunity to step back from the demands of everyday life.
A Life Talk with resident Wellness Mentor Ibu Fera creates room for reflection on personal wellbeing, while her signature Sacred Nap offers an unusually intimate way to experience the valley. Suspended in a silk hammock for 60 minutes, guests can rest to the sound of the river rushing below, with the surrounding landscape providing a sense of distance from the outside world.
At the Sacred River Spa, the 120-minute Restu Bumi treatment brings the experience back to the connection between the body and the natural world. Spiritual cleansing, traditional instruments, aromatic local herbs and a warming gemstone massage using Indonesian moss agate form part of the ritual. The wider seasonal programme also includes meditation, the preparation of loloh, a traditional Balinese herbal drink, and culinary experiences at Sokasi. For another interpretation of the water theme, the spa’s Tirta Ening ritual combines steam, crystal-energised water, a monsoon shower, a waterbed massage and sound.
The contrast between the two resorts is central to the appeal. Jimbaran Bay looks outward, towards the ocean and the sensory richness of coastal life. Sayan turns inward, drawing on the river and forest to create a more introspective experience. Neither asks guests to disconnect from Bali in pursuit of wellbeing; instead, both use the island’s landscape and traditions to bring that connection into sharper focus.
The Season of Sacred Water is available for bookings and stays from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, with a minimum two-night stay. Tides of Renewal at Jimbaran Bay includes daily breakfast, bamboo stretching, Hatha yoga, one 120-minute Suara Jimbaran treatment and afternoon tea. Flow into Stillness at Sayan includes daily breakfast, a Life Talk with Ibu Fera, one 60-minute Sacred Nap, one 120-minute Restu Bumi treatment and afternoon tea. Additional experiences can be arranged separately where applicable.
In an island often associated with its beaches, temples and vibrant cultural scene, this seasonal collection offers another reason to linger. Sometimes, the most meaningful way to discover Bali is to follow the water, pay attention to what surrounds you and allow the island to set the pace.
