Wellness is becoming an increasingly important part of the modern travel experience, with more travellers looking beyond traditional relaxation and seeking ways to support their physical health, mental wellbeing and overall lifestyle while away from home. As awareness of health and wellness tourism continues to grow, hotels are responding by making wellness facilities and experiences a more integral part of the stay.
According to the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2025/2026, the health and wellness tourism trend is expected to continue growing as travellers place greater importance on health, relaxation and life balance when planning their journeys.
Reflecting this shift, Archipelago Hotels, Indonesia and Southeast Asia’s largest privately-owned hotel management group, is offering an expanding range of wellness facilities across its portfolio in destinations throughout the country. From fitness centres, swimming pools, spas, saunas and jacuzzis to activities such as yoga, Zumba and Pilates, the offerings are designed to help guests maintain their wellness routines while enjoying a more restorative travel experience.
At present, 77 hotels across the Archipelago Hotels network offer at least one wellness facility. This includes 55 properties with fitness centres, 31 with swimming pools, 67 offering spa services, six with saunas, four with jacuzzis and 12 providing fitness activities. The facilities are available across Java, Bali & Nusa Tenggara, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, giving travellers a range of options to incorporate wellness into stays across Indonesia.
The wellness experiences are available across several Archipelago Hotels brands, including Aston, Kamuela, The Alana, Harper, Quest Hotels, Hotel Neo and fave hotel. Selected properties also offer relaxation experiences through spa treatments inspired by Indonesian traditions, with established partners such as Alaya Spa, Annathaya Spa, Kamma Spa and Apsara Spa contributing to the portfolio of wellness experiences.
By bringing together fitness facilities, recreational amenities and spa treatments influenced by local traditions, Archipelago Hotels is giving guests greater flexibility to look after both their physical and mental wellbeing while travelling. Whether maintaining a regular workout, taking a swim, joining a fitness activity or simply unwinding with a spa treatment, guests can incorporate wellness into their stay without having to compromise their usual routines.
“The health and wellness tourism trend is projected to keep rising as more travellers make health, relaxation and life balance an essential part of their travel experience. We see the role of hotels evolving, not only as places to stay, but also as spaces that support a healthy lifestyle and guest wellbeing. Through the development of wellness facilities across our brands, we strive to deliver a stay experience that is increasingly relevant to the needs and lifestyles of today’s travellers,” said John Flood, CEO of Archipelago Hotels.
As wellness continues to influence how people choose where and how they travel, the growing range of facilities across Archipelago Hotels’ properties reflects a broader evolution in hospitality. For today’s traveller, a hotel can be more than simply a place to sleep – it can also be a space to stay active, slow down, recharge and maintain a sense of balance throughout the journey.
